Electronic eyewear that enables the legally blind to see.This new concept in low vision devices has arrived in Australia and is living up to its reputation.
A number of them have been supplied to very happy visually impaired people.eSight3 is a third generation concept and as such is a marked improvement on the previous devices.
A high resolution video camera captures live images and displays them on two o-led video screens which must be accurately aligned with each eye. A range finder incorporated with the video camera ensures that the images are always in focus at all distances.
When appropriately fitted for the patient, including their spectacle prescription, the images can be magnified up to 24X, contrasted and manipulated by the hand held specially designed computer controller to enable vastly improved vision.Patients with central vision loss are the most successful eg. conditions such as optic atrophy, Stargardt’s disease, macular degeneration etc.
Those with peripheral vision problems such as retinitis pigmentosa and advanced glaucoma are mostly not assisted by this device.
The eSight3 headborne device is connected to the controller which is usually clipped to a belt or hand held so that the dials and buttons needed to utilise the many functions are easily accessed.
eSight3 may also be directly connected to a television screen or computer to allow more effective use of these items.
Due to the unique design of eSight3, it is possible for the user to be mobile while wearing the device.
